Here is a short description of a problem that was sent to us by one of Revit users: “Our client is asking us to add a tag to all wall openings to say which service goes through which particular hole. At the moment using Cut Opening Pro, I can change the opening shape from round to rectangle, plus edit the offset. There are no other variables to edit. However, would it be possible to add another edit box whereby we could add a note as either an Instance Parameter or Type Parameter? For example, we would like to be able to add the discipline code, such as ELE, MVC or FPS to the Properties box when we are using the Cut Opening Pro dialogue box. This would then allow us to automatically tag the openings when producing two dimensional construction drawings.”  Have you ever faced with such a problem? Don’t worry – it can be solved simply.

About a week ago we got an enquiry from a global engineering company that provides a full range of engineering solutions to clients in the construction, engineering, manufacturing, telecom, and utility industries. BIM manager of this company wrote in an e-mail message:

“I am pretty much interested to buy Cut Opening PRO tool. Hope it helps for modeling requirement. Let me know is the tool generating dimensions as well text? Please find attached PDF file, what we expecting from “CUT OPENING PRO”. We are looking for Tags as per our PDF attached:"

Many of our clients can prove that our Cut Opening Pro is a brilliant time saver. Using this BIM solution for Autodesk® Revit® you can create openings around ducts, pipes, cable trays and conduits in floors, walls, roofs, ceilings, beams, and columns automatically. Also there is no problem to make such tag as it was shown in the enquiry sample.

Today I will try to answer some common questions asked by Revit MEP users. Here are a few examples of questions that we receive from time to time:

Question #1: It sees on the web page that Cut Opening Pro Supports IFC Ducts and Pipes, but is it Supporting IFC Ducts, Pipes and Cable, coming from (Made by) AutoCAD Architecture, and MagiCAD as application for pipes and Cable? I’m in a big mess with many holes for Ducts, Pipes and Cable to cut out into buildings, I while use a very long time to do this manually for every Ducts, Pipes and Cable.

Question #2: I have received a file from a MEP user that I want to make cutouts for in the structural Revit model. However he is providing his model in the IFC format that I have opened in Revit and saved as a Revit-file. Is it in any way possible to use your software, Cut Opening, in this instance? It seems as if the IFC-geometry defaults to generic models in the Revit-version and I guess “Cut Opening” can’t use this?

Yes, I want to tell you that using BIM solution for Revit Cut Opening Pro you can create openings around Pipes, Ducts, Cable Trays and Conduits that come from IFC file format. Please find the steps below those describe how to cut openings according to IFC:

Last week we received a few similar questions about Cut Opening Pro. Users of this BIM solution asked me why Cut Opening Pro does not have possibility to show intrinsic elevation of the opening. But it has! As I see not all Cut Opening Pro users know how to do this, so today I will answer to Revit user questions such as: What I am looking for is an intrinsic elevation of the Face openings above their respective reference planes. Do you provide this capability?

We also received an analogous question from Revit user from Russia: В спецификации Revit'а необходимо видеть такие значения как отметка высоты низа отверстия, как можно решить данный вопрос?

As previously mentioned, Cut Opening Pro has this possibility. I am going to explain how to use it.

As you know, our newest software Smart Assemblies and some of Wood Framing Pro modules Truss+ RT and Rafter+ fit for Revit 2015 now. And the last week Tools 4 Revit team released more BIM solutions, compatible with Autodesk Revit 2015. I'm talking about two BIM solutions that are already compatible with Revit 2015!

We have released new version 2015.1 of Cut Opening Pro BIM software that automatically creates openings around the ducts, pipes, cable trays and conduits in walls, floors, ceilings or roofs.

Also another useful solution Insert Elements is compatible with Autodesk Revit 2015 now. Insert Elements quickly inserts architectural, structural, mechanical elements into predefined positions that are logically related with other objects. We have released Insert Elements v2015.1 single and network licenses, so now designers who work in small or big design companies can use this new version of Insert Elements.

Metal_Wall+_Framed-Wall-Sample-2Metal wall framing, or light gauge steel framing, is an alternative to traditional wood framing. It has been the standard of commercial construction in the United States of America and many other countries. Also this light gauge metal stud framing is widely available in dwelling construction in Australia, New Zealand, and the same USA.

Many architects and structural engineers who use Autodesk® Revit® know what high challenge is a demand to create a full framing layout in 3D. Framed system should be very accurate. Also it is desirable that the framing process should be creatively flexible. Our product managers, who have practical experience as designers and professional Revit users as well, also saw a demand for productivity increasing in this design field. So after long working days, today we are happy to announce that the newest AGA CAD BIM solution Metal Framing Wall+ has been officially released.
