This Nordic engineering firm says AGACAD’s BIM software has brought big efficiency gains for its precast concrete and wood framing projects, helped it win new clients, and enabled the company to handle more complex projects.

Client Profile

JPS-Konsult AB, based in Vrigstad, Sweden, specializes in the design of precast concrete and wood-frame buildings, mainly for residential use.

Business Need

While upgrading itself from 2D to 3D design to be more modern and competitive in the market, JPS-Konsult ran into productivity issues with its new Autodesk® Revit® software. Revit required so much time-consuming manual work that the company was tempted to go back to AutoCAD®.

“We tried to make shop drawings with plain Revit, and soon realized that there had to be a better way,” recalls CEO Johannes Svensson.

So the firm began looking for ways to get all the great benefits of BIM for its precast concrete and timber projects but without having to waste so much valuable time. Specifically, it needed automated view layouts, dimensioning and material take-off, plus ways to quickly insert elements to achieve greater detailing. This functionality had to be easy to learn and use.

Svensson says he did a major search and concluded that AGACAD had the most powerful solutions for his needs. It’s also the only one with a software portfolio broad enough to support both wood and concrete projects.

If you’ve been hoping for a way to effortlessly and painlessly reposition studs, your ship has just come in. And even if you haven’t been on the lookout for it, you may want to climb aboard – this is the Queen Mary of stud placement.

It’s fast. It’s powerful. It makes life easier.

The newly released versions of Wood / Metal Framing Wall+, Floor+, and Roof+ contain a new option that allows you to position studs and joists not only in relation to each other but according to Revit gridlines. This special feature was developed at the request of our Norwegian users.

In the past, studs or joists had to be spaced following a predefined pattern, say, 24 inches apart, within each wall, starting from one end or the other or from both ends working toward the midpoint. An extra step was then required to make sure that studs were aligned.

But now, with new Align with Project Base Point feature, you can space and align all your studs at the same time! Project Base Point handles positioning in a more robust manner than before: instead of directly defining the spacing between studs, you just define the grid spacing, and the function takes care of the rest. Studs are positioned on the gridlines –and where necessary to fill in gaps or form intersections – so that they always match up across a corridor or room.

Want to see more detail in your shop drawings? Now you can, by creating Detail Views! This powerful function is included in the newly released versions of Wood / Metal Framing Wall+, Floor+, and Roof+. This special feature was developed at the request of our Norwegian users.

Back in the olden days, when you placed an assembly view on your shop drawing, you could see that assembly and all its parts in all their dimensioned glory. It was wonderful.

That was then.

Roof Panel Layout is a powerful solution for prefabricated roof panels in Revit®. It enables easy roof panel planning and splitting into segments for prefabrication which can then be used in the roof framing process.

After getting a roof from the architects, we can use Roof Panel Layout to generate the panel layout planning. The software uses predefined rules to draw symbolic lines indicating the future panels. Then it creates real Revit® roof panels. Later Wood Framing Roof+ or Metal Framing Roof+ users can use these panels to create prefabricated framing, including rafters, battens, valley joists, roof boards, and so on.
