Cut Opening software was created as a REVIT tool to aid in collaborating between different parts of the project regarding openings. This collaboration is driven by .xml files that contain information about opening position, opening size, opening joining distnce, services that openings contain, etc. Now we have added new communication parameters that allow users to share their ideas straight in the model.

The new parameters for collaboration have been added to families. Users can write comments and approve or decline the openings. And of course it keeps track of who added the comments.

We’ve been working on new Cut Opening REVIT families. Previously, we only had Rectangular and Round Void Openings. Now we’ve added Rectangular and Round Solid Openings, and Round openings with Fire Sleeves. On top of that, we’ve created the possibility of using any opening family from your computer. We’ve transferred lots of needed parameters from services and more. Read this article and discover all the new and great changes in Cut Opening families.

  • It’s possible to use any opening families.

We’ve just released a new version of Cut Opening with lots of new features. Some of them were implemented together with our customers from Clancy Consulting and Mott MacDonald teams. You can read the short descriptions down below.

Flexibility

Gary Royle @ Clancy Consulting

"We would like to use round holes for cable trays but can’t seem to change. Is this possible?? In answer to your question, it is felt that it is cheaper to create a circular opening in a piece of steel than it is to create a rectangular hole. Therefore for small cable trays such as 50mm x 30mm it is felt that it would be cheaper to create a circular hole of around 75mm diameter."

We opened the possibility to add round openings for all rectangular MEP objects (Ducts, Cable Trays).

When working with Revit®, BIM professionals hope to complete the majority of tasks automatically and concentrate on creative instead of technical work. However, they often discover that modelling process requires more non-creative assignments than expected.

Fortunately, AGACAD tools for Revit save time and money by eliminating unnecessary BIM tasks, letting professionals focus on work that creates value. For example, letting architects to put their mind to creating, let’s say, window design and then generating their legend with lots of different information automatically in a few simple clicks, or letting MEP engineers use their valuable time on designing ducts and then cutting the holes in walls automatically, and so on.

Those who constantly follow AGACAD activities have already noticed that the company, founded as far back as 1991, changed its entire visual identity at the end of the 2014 year.

Why did the company decide to change?

Old AGA CAD logo >

AGA CAD was founded over two decades ago. Almost ten years ago it started Autodesk software extension developing. Over the past few years, the company has significantly increased its products' supply for designers working in AEC fields. Gradually the company is ripe for changes.

At the beginning of 2014 the company's management was fully determined on the company's brand alterations. There was a search for the most acceptable AGACAD branding, brand positioning questions have also been solved.

The changes affected not only the company's brand, but also part of the product names, customer support, licensing methods and more. Visual alterations are like a crown of all changes.

It took us almost whole 2014 year to crystallize – what are we and what our purpose is. It was very important for us: who are the end-users, how they live, what is important for them, how we can benefit them, what are our customer's expectations. We also wanted to clear out how we are different, what vision we strive to follow and on what values AGACAD activities are based.

What's new in AGACAD branding?

AGACAD offers both network and standalone license types of software licenses. Software with standalone licensing allows users to install the software on a single workstation (1 license = 1 computer) without the need to be connected to a company network.

Network licensing helps software user to ensure his/her own access to the right product at the right time, and it enables easy and efficient control of software use. Another customer's benefit – the only fixed annual fee (valid for 12 months) is applied for a company but not per license.

Network license can be installed on as many computers as desired; however, at any one time, only the maximum number of computers, which is specified in the licenses, can run the software. The Network License Manager (NLM), installed on one or more servers, controls the distribution of particular product licenses to the users.

Based on our experience, AGACAD customers need to have the most effective licensing model to fit their operation rules. Therefore we improved the licensing models. Now AGACAD provides NLM Annual Service that enables current SLM licenses' migration to NLM licenses and vice versa.
