There is a big problem with data coordination between very different platforms such as AutoCAD and Revit. This question arises too often not to search for a good solution for it.

I’ve searched for a method to transfer some dynamic data from AutoCAD to MS Excel and Data Extraction method worked like a charm. At the time our team worked hard on a new tool called Excel2Revit which is a great helper in data coordination between Excel and Revit. You should see where I am getting here.

Today I will explain about the possibility to work with linked files using the Autodesk® Revit® extension Dynamic Legend. This post was inspired by our customer question “Does Dynamic Legend work on linked files, if yes, how?”, that we received last week.

So today I’ll try to explain, how to update Revit legends with ease.

For updating legends there is a separate function Update All Legends. This function allows you to update all selected legends with just one click.

All Mechanical Engineers know that each of the heating devices whether it is a radiator or a convector should have estimated traffic of water going through it. Hydraulic balancing of the system makes the distribution equivalent to each of the heating system device; then the system becomes efficient and cost-effective after the hydraulic balancing.

Improperly balanced system may cause not only unnecessary waste of energy but also low indoor climate and comfort conditions in a building. Heating system balancing influences the proper work of all the heating devices separately. As we know, water has specific properties to flow the way of least resistance. This feature can cause heating power failure. If the system is balanced improperly, the fluid flows through the nearest heating devices and it causes subsequent failure.

Structure or MEP engineers working with Revit® need to have a quick and easy way to layout hangers in the chosen level. The newest product of our team BIM solution Smart Hangers allows you to dramatically decrease the effort and cost you modify your Revit Structure or MEP model. It applies to all MEP curves including pipe, duct, cable tray and conduit. Smart Hangers allows you to split the curves into fixed length according to manufacturer's specified lengths and insert supports / hangers based on each curve or the layout and size of the curves.

This week I have received an interesting question: Working with Revit, we do have a need to copy architectural walls and openings then convert them to structural. We usually model all structural walls and openings from scratch. Can you offer more clever solution?

Yeah, it’s a known issue. I’ll try to explain how to make this design process faster. Actually we have a solution for the cases if you want to copy architectural walls and openings then convert them to structural elements.

Openings in structural walls-1First of all, you need to use “Decompose Walls” from our Autodesk Revit extension Smart Walls. The Decompose Walls feature spites selected walls to the separate wall segments. It’s totally independent walls.

So you just need to select a wall with all layers and press on Decompose Walls. Result:
