There is a big problem with data coordination between very different platforms such as AutoCAD and Revit. This question arises too often not to search for a good solution for it.

I’ve searched for a method to transfer some dynamic data from AutoCAD to MS Excel and Data Extraction method worked like a charm. At the time our team worked hard on a new tool called Excel2Revit which is a great helper in data coordination between Excel and Revit. You should see where I am getting here.

Today I will explain about the possibility to work with linked files using the Autodesk® Revit® extension Dynamic Legend. This post was inspired by our customer question “Does Dynamic Legend work on linked files, if yes, how?”, that we received last week.

I want to make all Revit users sure that Dynamic Legend really works with linked files. You can filter those elements by selecting “Document” tab in the window “Select Parameters”:

Updating of Revit Legends is a matter of great concern for many Autodesk® Revit® users. We often receive questions: “Do you have an instruction for how to update the door legend when here has been any change in the project?” or something like that. So today I’ll try to explain, how to update Revit legends with ease.

Dynamic Legend - Update All LegendsDynamic Legend is a very good Autodesk Revit extension that allows you to quickly create, modify and update legends for Revit elements. For updating legends there is a separate function Update All Legends. This function allows you to update all selected legends with just one click.

All Mechanical Engineers know that each of the heating devices whether it is a radiator or a convector should have estimated traffic of water going through it. Hydraulic balancing of the system makes the distribution equivalent to each of the heating system device; then the system becomes efficient and cost-effective after the hydraulic balancing.

Improperly balanced system may cause not only unnecessary waste of energy but also low indoor climate and comfort conditions in a building. Heating system balancing influences the proper work of all the heating devices separately. As we know, water has specific properties to flow the way of least resistance. This feature can cause heating power failure. If the system is balanced improperly, the fluid flows through the nearest heating devices and it causes subsequent failure.

Structure or MEP engineers working with Revit® need to have a quick and easy way to layout hangers in the chosen level. The newest product of our team BIM solution Smart Hangers allows you to dramatically decrease the effort and cost you modify your Revit Structure or MEP model. It applies to all MEP curves including pipe, duct, cable tray and conduit. Smart Hangers allows you to split the curves into fixed length according to manufacturer's specified lengths and insert supports / hangers based on each curve or the layout and size of the curves.

Smart Hangers has a functionality to get a real hanger elevation. You can find it by clicking Common → Modify Hangers/Supports:

Excel2Revit iconExcel2Revit is an Autodesk Revit add-on that can help you to quickly insert MS Excel data into your Revit Architecture, Revit MEP and Revit Structure projects. This tool was highly appreciated by Revit users. We receive a lot of suggestions how to improve work with Excel data and to make Excel2Revit much more helpful. So we have improved this tool. The latest released versions of Excel2Revit are v2014.2 and v2013.2.

Video: What's new in the latest Excel2Revit version (2014.2, 2013.2)

Our hardworking team tries to ensure all Revit® users' expectations. Therefore, we’re not only updating our existing products but we create new products too.

Smart HangersWe know that MEP engineers, constructors, and contractors need to be able to prepare construction documents with hangers and supports because without them the Revit MEP model is incomplete. We want to make Revit users' life easier; therefore our last great job is a new BIM solution Smart Hangers. This application for Autodesk® Revit® MEP and Structure users is launched publicly on 16th of October, 2013.

If you ever had a question how to make duct/pipe supports or hangers in Revit MEP easier, Smart Hangers is simply the best solution to meet the case.

This week I have received an interesting question: Working with Revit, we do have a need to copy architectural walls and openings then convert them to structural. We usually model all structural walls and openings from scratch. Can you offer more clever solution?

Yeah, it’s a known issue. I’ll try to explain how to make this design process faster. Actually we have a solution for the cases if you want to copy architectural walls and openings then convert them to structural elements.

Openings in structural walls-1First of all, you need to use “Decompose Walls” from our Autodesk Revit extension Smart Walls. The Decompose Walls feature spites selected walls to the separate wall segments. It’s totally independent walls.

So you just need to select a wall with all layers and press on Decompose Walls. Result:

Thank you.
