This week we have released new Smart Browser Free version that has a possibility to load subcategories from the predefined file to your Revit® families.

From now on loading subcategories will be easy. You just have to open the Revit family → TOOLS4BIM DockSmart Browser FreeCreate/ModifyCreate SubCategory → select subcategories from the list → and click OK:

At the beginning of this August we received such a query from our client:

“I have a question regarding wall tags. I’m wondering if there is a way to setup parameters so that system will calculate wall marks sequentially in a numerical form as you tag the walls.

Instead of having to go and fill in the mark type on each wall manually before tagging, I would like Revit to generate these marks for me every time I create a new wall or break a wall into 2 walls.

For wall paneling, having the walls auto generate a sequential number scheme for the mark type would be extremely helpful. It would be fine to keep a specific wall mark for each different wall type, which it does now, but also add numbers after it.

Example: 2x6 Ext w/veneer – W1-1,2,3,4,5 etc. - (W1-) would be the mark type and a formula would be needed to add them up sequentially, automatically 2x6 Ext w/brick – W2-1,2,3,4,5, etc. - (W2-) would be the mark type. Let me know if there is something like this already.”

Thanks for the question. Yes, we have already a solution for solving this sore point of many Autodesk® Revit® users.

Sometimes we receive some requests of residential plan drafters on a special wall type design in Revit® models. When designing the wood components, they need to insert pocket doors in the framed building walls.

Our BIM solution Wood Framing Wall+ allows Revit users to frame the pocket door; it finds Width and Height parameters then uses it to frame the opening. But if a location point is not correctly described in the Door family, then the opening frame will be placed in a wrong location. For example, if the location of the pocket door family is in the middle, we get this result:

Thanks for the email to one of our Metal Framing Floor+ users, whose question has encouraged me to write this blog post. He asked this question: “I need the Revit® families of profiles Howick 89 x 41.3 for metal roof and floor, is it possible?” Framing process is not easy, and it requires many different framing profiles. So, in this blog post I would like to explain how building designers can add required Revit families to their framing models.

There are two ways of adding new Revit family type to the project:

  • First – you can find new types in the default library that we provide together with our product Metal Framing Floor+;
  • Second – create a new Revit family type by yourself.

Further I’ll provide the way how to add required new Revit families of profiles. This way can be used not only when working with Metal Framing Floor+ but with other our BIM solutions for framing as well: Metal Framing Wall+, Metal Framing Rafter+ or Metal Framing Truss+.

Today a new update was released of our powerful BIM solution Metal Framing Wall+ for light gauge steel framed system design. This application for Autodesk® Revit® for metal framed system creation includes new powerful functionally that:

  • enables distribution of any details/holes in the frame using different insertion rules;
  • supports both C+C (incl. C+C Chamfered) and C+U (incl. C+U Special) framing systems;
  • allows control of bridging / nogging placement;
  • allows Revit users to build their own header types and many more.

Yesterday our company released a new build of our most popular Revit® plugin Excel2R that significantly speeds up project documentation process. This tool quickly imports MS Excel spreadsheets into Revit® projects, including style settings.

Excel2R is a great helper for Revit users, because data between Excel and Revit documents are linked, therefore tables constantly keep current information. But even a superior product can be improved. Over the past few months, we received several clients' requests to add some functionality such as:

“We create Excel files that need to be on multiple sheets, bringing them into a Legend will contribute to that, but even better, would be to bring it into a schedule, so that formatting can be controlled within Revit."
or
“Is it possible to have the excel file created in a Legend rather than a Drafting View? I have a need to place the excel file on multiple sheets, which I can do with a Legend."

As you know, AGACAD team always seeks to react to our client's wishes so Excel2R was upgraded including some new functionality and fixes for the text alignment.

After Metal Framing Floor+ and Wood Framing Floor+ releases in February we are busy making improvements to Wood Framing Wall+. I think now is a good time to let you know about some new developments you'll soon be able to enjoy. Read below for the details, which will let you get an early look at some of these improvements.

We have already improved V connections, and we are also working on vertical sidings (vertical timber cladding systems) and other improvements related to logs. I just want to share few screenshots with our blog readers.

Do you know what to do, when you need to make new framing type of metal profiles for Metal Framing Floor+ or Metal Framing Wall+? Is it possible? Yes, of course. Metal Framing Floor+ and Metal Framing Wall+ users can work with various profiles and profile sizes that they could need in their Revit projects.

There are two ways of adding new type to your project:

  1. you can find new types in the default library that we provide together with a product;
  2. you can create a new family type by yourself.

Our team's created Metal Framing products have functionality that loads sample family types, but it loads not all of them. This functionality is mostly for the trial users or beginners. If it's not enough, I'll explain how you can find and add a new family type from our developed Metal Framing library. Please make following steps:
