NEW FEATURES for Wood & Metal Framing: Plate connections, Stud splitting, Siding alignment, and more

Before diving into the details of this update for our framing software, perhaps a little distinction is in order. Due to such frequent updates of our software, a common question always comes up: “Why is your software updated so often?” And we understand. After all, sometimes that little red dot shows up in the Dock more than twice a month!

TOOLS4BIM Dock OverviewThe reason for such a high frequency of updates is because we try to fulfill clients’ special requests as soon as possible. Instead of making a client wait a month or two until the next VERSION is released, we strive to implement their specialized requests as quickly as we can by frequently releasing software BUILDS. Of course, these BUILDS may also contain bug fixes – and we’re very grateful to clients when they help find these! – but rest assured that most often, that little red dot just means we’ve made one more client’s Revit dream come true.

With that said, let’s get into the new things you can do with your timber or light-gauge steel framing projects using the latest BUILDS of Wood and Metal Framing!

Control plate connections for ridge studs

First off, it’s now possible to control plate connections in the Ridge Stud position if you’re using Metal Framing Wall+.

To connect plates to each other, just tick “Plates Connected”…

…and you’ll get this result:

Otherwise, plates will be connected to the ridge studs, not to each other:

Smart Dimension technology advancing up and up

Whether you’re framing walls, floors, or roofs, be they wood or metal, the benefits of customizable, sophisticated dimensions are enormous. Not only can you add dimensions to shop drawings automatically, but you can configure them just the way you need, from simple (main frame only) to complex (all layers).

Align siding. Even vertical siding.

From now on, you can align not only bridging and nogging but also siding. This update applies to both wood and metal walls. In the “Align Element” menu, you can see that Siding has been added next to Bridging and Nogging.

On top of that, there’s a new possibility of aligning vertical siding with siding in a connected wall by using the new function “Align Vertical Siding with other”:

Add or delete copied elements

Increasing flexibility for users is at the forefront of our software updates. This is certainly the case with these simple but useful functions that allow you to add or delete copied elements to the frame (via the standard Revit “Copy” command) and to cut or uncut beam ends.

Sometimes the smallest of things can save so much time!

Split elements in framed walls, floors, and roof in Revit model

Finally, a new function for splitting elements has been added to all our Wood and Metal Framing tools – that is, for Walls, Floor, and Roof. From now on, you can split a stud right where you need to. Just select “Split Stud” in the “Split Elements” menu:

Those are all the updates in this BUILD of our wood and metal framing software. We encourage you to click that little red dot in the TOOLS4BIM Dock – if you haven’t already! – and use these latest updates in your framing project today.
