How to Import Excel to Revit Text Box Size Correctly: Avoid Plain Revit 2015 Bug

Few of our clients who use our Revit® add-on Excel2R faced with a problem of data transfer importing Excel® spreadsheets to Autodesk® Revit® project. When they import the data, text boxes cause the text to go below each other even though it doesn’t reflect the same way in the original Excel document for import. Please see below images showing samples of imported tables in Revit with the unacceptable results:

It seems the text is wrapping even though there is plenty of room for it. Obviously, this is not good. Fortunately we know how to fix this issue: it’s very simple.

The Autodesk Company made a bug in text formatting function in the first Revit 2015 release. That is the reason why our Excel2R didn’t work with the plain Revit 2015 properly. But later on, Autodesk team has fixed that issue with an update. So please make sure you have the last Autodesk Revit 2015 Update, i.e. Release 4 or Release 5. Actually, I have already installed Release 5.

Excel2R imports text using the same text size as in Excel file. In general, if you would print a table form Excel and from Revit you would get the same result. So please install the latest Autodesk Revit 2015 Update release and you won’t have to deal with this issue anymore.

If you need any assistance regarding Excel2R usage, please don’t hesitate and contact me by e-mail renata@aga-cad.com.
